Quickride: 2007 Nissan Elgrand

Quickride is now back in full swing, back to it roots of driving a JDM People Carrier. This time we have something from the Godzilla guys, a Nissan Elgrand. Yeeeeeeeeeees.

In Indonesia, rich people loves luxury JDM Minivan. Simply because it's offers more space and headroom than even the largest saloon like something from Germany or United Kingdom. That's why the Elgrand exist.

Inside, that's where the Elgrand really shines. Even the front quarter, where the peasants sit there, nissan makes sure they travel in great comfort. Look at all those leather and wood there! Bet you didn't got those in normal minivan.

Even this car was released in 2007, it has some quite modern features like satnav (which is broken, because it's only work in Japan), radar-guided cruise control, and, rear-parking camera, because maybe driving this car is a bit like driving a huge cargo ship. You don't need a backup camera if you drive a VW Golf. But you do need those in a car this big. And oh, this car only does 180km/h. Because JDM. Plus this thing wobbles in a speed higher than 120km/h because the chassis is so soft. It's like they're using Cotton to make the chassis and the whole suspension.

Then you open the rear door, and it's just screams luxury. Black leather, reclining captain seats with massage function, and those curitains! Hnggggggggggggggggggh..

My only complaints is, unlike the Alphard it's quite hard to access the 3rd row because you have to move the 2nd row to get access there, and those seats is quite heavy to move, even with the electric motor assist. Still, if you don't have lot of kids you'll hardly need the 3rd row anyway.

To drive, this car was well, it's like driving any other people carrier. Boring, wobbly, and slow despite it has a 3.5l VQ35DE from 370z and rear-wheel drive. But this car is a very good value for used car here in Indonesia. Because the Elgrand has less prestige than the Toyota Alphard, the value of this car drops quite extreme. This car used to stickers for 76,360 USD. But 7 years later you can pick one of these used for about 25-30k USD.

Seriously, if i have lot of kids when i marry my girl one day, I'll happily buy a used Elgrand for transporting the kids. But if i only have 1 kid then he/she should stuck in my little crown.

But still, i love this car. I love all those JDM People carrier. how about you, People of Republic of Oppo?

You had me at RWD!

What does it have for a transmission 5/6 speed auto or a cvt?

I love JDM vans but we don't get much here in Canada. The only thing I would consider close to a JDM van is the Nissan Quest.

Edit: the more you know. The Nissan quest is the same as the next generation Elgrand

yes the Elgrand looks better because of the JDM front but underneath they are technically the same.

Yeah.

I've heard about that Quest, never got those in here since we got the Elgrand, and the lower sibling called the Serena, and even lower sibling called the Evalia.
